This Palestinian woman took refuge in the hospital with her baby after being displaced by the Israeli bombardment.Nivin Al-Barbari is very worried about the unborn child. He is appalled by the inhuman war situation in Gaza. With each Israeli airstrike in Gaza, 33-year-old Nivin's back and stomach shake with fear and pain. Before the Israeli attack on October 7, Nivin regularly visited a doctor. Get regular checkups for gestational diabetes and high blood pressure. But because of the constant bombings, they can't do it anymore. He has to be forced to stay at home. He has no other way to communicate with the doctor.Nivin Al-Barbari said, 'Every day I think about where and how I will give birth to my child. The bombing does not stop. No man, tree or stone is spared from it. We don't know whose house will be destroyed or who will die. I only want one thing, that my child should be safe.'
Nivin is going to give birth to his first child this month. Nivin is one of thousands of women in the Gaza Strip who are at the end of their pregnancy.
According to the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF), there are 50,000 pregnant women in the besieged Gaza Strip. Gaza's health care system has collapsed due to the Israeli siege. Because of this, many pregnant women are suffering from lack of regular health check-up and treatment. In Gaza last week, the UNPF called for "urgent healthcare and protection" for pregnant women.
Nivin said, 'Seeing pictures of children trapped under the rubble of buildings or lying in hospitals with injuries, I am very afraid for my unborn child. Every day I pray for an end to the war, to protect the unborn child from missile attacks. But no one has any mercy.
According to Walid Abu Hatab, an obstetrician and gynecologist at Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, access to health centers has become very difficult. About 23 lakh people of this valley have been displaced in the last two weeks.
